California is a wonderful place to live, if you can ignore the strong nanny-ish streak that makes certain people raise the alarm about the danger of salad (and boy do I try). I think living in the UK was good preparation for this place. As Jeff Nolan asks:  [A]re these the real priorities we should be setting as a society… salad bars and cars that don’t make enough noise?
