Jeff, scary ...so TSA can bark at you and me but does not have jurisdiction over our airports?

Here is what bothers me...I would gladly pay twice the $ 2.50 fee on each segment if they introduced more technology and a higher, more serious caliber of employee...some of the incidents I can report

"First time in the US?" as one of them looks at my US passport

"you have an issue go complain to the asshole in washington and see how far you get " Kid you not he used those words - a Federal employee

someone threatened to consficate a 100ml perfume I had bought for wife in London..I had to show him that was 3.4 oz to which he said that's over the 3 oz limit, and we had to go find regs which showed TSA has upped the limit to become consistent with Europe. No one had trained him on the change.

the average person/bag is scrutinized for may be 10 seconds...I would love to see that increased
It's the 4-5 hangers on for each person screening the bags or frisking a passenger which I would love to see reduced or automated

Vinnie,
To play devil's advocate for just a second (cuz we do that well with each other!), airports are locally owned and operated. It's unclear to me how TSA operates their security checkpoints, but if they are responsible for the personnel and the airport authority for the physical infrastructure, well it's overstepping of federal authority to force regional airports to roll out Clear if TSA is not willing to pay for it.

Okay, devil's advocate hat off, Clear has been telling airports that they, as in Clear, will fund the rollout of Clear checkpoints so local airports have few excuses.

Lastly, when I was in Miami a couple of weeks ago I asked a TSA agent if they had Clear, he said (and I'm not bullshitting) "you must be kidding, the politicians in this town are too busy stealing money rather than spending it to make things better."

Guilty - but precisely because I don't see what you see in Bay area. The Clear technology rollout has been slow around the country - less than 20 airports after 4 years and there some with only certain terminals and hours - so it's still plenty of manual, human steps. Major airports like ATL, OHare, Miami, Tampa, DFW, Houston, Phoenix dont have it. The best TSA can do when you ask them when it is coming to a certain airport "is we encourage you to pressure your local airport."

This is a federal agency with all kinds of authority and they want individual passengers to lobby local airports?
