Chris / Elias,
Don't get me wrong, I don't think you need to "fix" anything at this point. Just continue to work toward the shared goal of having the brand mean something in the marketplace.

We, NewsGator, would like to be involved and considering we are already active in the APML working group we have some credentials here. I will also check out the Implementation action group.

Hi Jeff,

We have noted all the criticism by the media, and I take note what you have said.

Lots of ideas about fixing, some easy to do, but others we need to wait a bit longer - such as the one you state about rating (we can't do that until we have something to rate them for).

DataPortability is like a small startup trying to build Vista. It's easy to critique, but a lot harder to do. We are getting the house in order. Give it a few months, and you'll start to see some positive results.

We have indeed planned a rating system and to call 'bullshit' on ANYONE not working to the community's best interest - including vendors.

As for joining - I recommend you join the Implementation Action Group - that's where this sort of rating system would be developed.

You can see the list of Action Groups here: http://groups.google.com/group/dataportability-public/web/action-groups

As for bandwagons - there is no reason why you can't just join the google group quietly and contribute. No need to blog about it.

This is a bandwagon that began for a reason - we want to do something constructive - and your voice is most welcome.

Hi Chris,
Careful, I had a lot of dental work done last year so am not too enthused about the title of dentist! :)

Seriously, I know you are passionate about this topic, very knowledgeable and savvy about the component technologies. With that in mind, you will be able to call bullshit on the companies that want all gain and no pain.

My proposal to you is stated in the post, kick someone out for non-compliance (when you have something to comply with). The JD Power rating or Consumer Reports score has brand equity because consumers believe that manufacturers can't buy their way into the club.

PS- I'm still interested in joining, but right now it would just look like we are jumping on the bandwagon.

Would love to hear your thoughts on how to give DP more teeth Jeff. Perhaps you might be interested in being the dentist of the group.

I know that sounds funny - but I am serious. If you have a good proposal there is no reason why we can't include it into the roadmap.

Cheers,
