Jeff -

There will likely also be a(nother) serious attempt at trying to monetize blogs, videos and more. To cut out the middle-men (media companies) so every brand becomes its own media outlet.

Time will tell how that pans out , micro-payments included or not.

Anshu,
Check out Xobni... inbox (Xobni spelled backwards) analytics. I first wrote about it in feb and, like you, believe this is a next hot product category.

I tend to agree with you about SL. It is frustratingly close to interesting. If you have a reason to be there, it can be very engaging (see Dr. Dobbs activities around Life 2.0) but to wonder around and hope that something (work related) happens may be a bit too much to ask -- at least today.

Jeff,
Very interesting. I especially like your prediction number 5 - existing networks such as Email addressbooks are definitely under-mined. In addition to a better addressbook, I would like analytical tools to run on my email messages to analyze who am I talking to, how much time different contacts take to respond, what words and phrases are common etc.
My email just sits there. I want it do something!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the encouraging words. I think to build on point 4, one of the reasons we believe that services such as Orglex will become even more relevant is because of their focus and concentration on specific areas.

This focus and concentration on specific areas allows the service to layer in ALL types of content (not just the regular news & blogs). This horizontal content (News, Blogs, Jobs, People etc...) to a vertical area delivers a lot of value to a user interested in that specific vertical. You can take a look at our Venture Capital Vertical Hub (http://www.orglex.com/hubs/venture-capital ) to give you an idea of what we are talking about.

Martin,
We already have mechanisms like PayPal for small peer-to-peer payments, what is lacking is a Visa/Mastercard like industry coming together to support it. Maybe Amazon will accomplish this under the AWS banner?

Jeff,
Regarding #1, which I completely agree with, I have to ask an age-old question (well not really age-old since we're in Internet time):
When are we going to see a micro-payment standard? This would change monetization overnight. I realize its been tried over and over but you'd think someone could figure it out. Just some dead simple and secure way to pay small sums for web services...
