People always speculate about market viability at the early stages of a market. I think people are a little to product focused in this debate. Dieters are a market. We can approach them with low carb food, excercise equipment or self help books. "Enterprise 2.0" appeals to company's looking to change their corporate collaboration. Vendors can solve that problem with intranets, cms, productivity tools, small little widgets or big platforms. Regardless, there's a big, healthy market of companies investing. Gartner and Forrester are slammed with inquiries from companies intending to spend money on this problem in 2008. Our company's pipeline and revenues are fed 100% by these buyers. If there's no market, how are we selling?

Anshu,
I hear what you are saying, and I couldn't help but think of the parallels to ERP. But, even with ERP customers were buying a product while subscribing to the notion of suite integration that was marketed as ERP.

My point is simply that it doesn't matter what you market to, don't lose sight of the fact that you have to solve a problem for a group of prospective customers willing to pay for it.

I agree with you Jeff about the principles of Enterprise 2.0 but I disagree on it being not a market. Sales and marketing would not be talking about Enterprise 2.0 if they were not being able to sell to it. Yes, the 'real' solutions are problem-specific (document sharing, signing etc.) or technology-specific (Wiki, blog) but its easier to start a conversation with an executive at a target customer with "What are you doing about Enterprise 2.0?" than with "I have a Wiki to sell you."

The challenge for our industry is to provide real value no matter what the umbrella term or TLA.

Lastly, I saw Echosign at Ismael's conference and thought that they were the most compelling solution presented at the conference. Plus the simplicity of the solution was impressive.
