Thanks for all the information. We are coming from Montana and looking for accomodations this month to follow a symphony concert. This area of Denver is inviting but I have to say... I have not run across any specials like 52.80! Might I ask, how did you find this? I could almost get someone an accomodation in our area at this price- to ski, fish... but The Curtis?

Let me ask you something, Jeff. Are you on the Hyatt's pay-roll? Do you by chance work for the Monaco?
The reason I ask is because your review ended up being very different than my experience.
I first spotted your blog three days ago, when I was doing a google search for the Curtis. At that point I already had reservations and was trying to figure out the best way to get there from DIA. I read your post and was very discouraged, but like I said, I already had reservations, so I just prepared for the worst. Happily, on my arrival, I found the hotel to be very pleasant. My room was on the 14th floor, themed 'TV Mania', and it was great. Turndown service included a pixie stick (which, though pointless, I thought was hilarious) and I had no trouble connecting to the wi-fi service.
While I didn't order room service, I did eat in the restaurant, The Office, in the lobby and not only was the food delicious, the drinks during happy hour were not expensive at all. In fact, I was very surprised at the total tab because the bar area seemed very retro-cool-loungish and that usually equals pricey.
Ah, now I've gone and written a novel; not my original intention.
Anyway, bottom line: your review really shook me and I was preparing for the worst, yet I enjoyed myself so completely that, ultimately, I was just left wondering if you ever really set foot in the Curtis...?

The difference is that I detailed what went wrong at the Curtis, you kind of shrugged your shoulders and said "whatever". In this day and age, it takes a lot more to bring back a disgruntled customer than "trust us".

I am back in Denver next week for 7 days and am staying at the Monaco. Because of the incident last month at the Curtis, I'll take the time to write about my experience at the Monaco... which may not seem like a big deal but search Google for "Curtis Hotel Denver".

http://www.google.com/search?q=curtis+hotel+denver&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=FlockInc.:en-US:official&client=firefox

My posting is 4th on the search results, right below Trip Advisor. What's more powerful to you, a negative review or a positive one?

Thanks for the feedback Tony. $52 a night is a great rate.

I'm all about second chances, but I am really happy staying at The Monaco from here on out (and it's right across the street from my Denver office).

I stayed at the Curtis about two weeks ago for the first time and my experience was also very different than yours. The staff was very attentive, the room I stayed in (15th floor) was nice (nothing too fancy, but sufficient and pretty hip) and although I was at first confused by the strange wireless internet situation, I was able to log on. As a matter of fact, my wife and I are staying there again tomorrow night as we got an amazing $52.80 rate. They should give you a comp night and you should give them another chance!

If service was the important issue to you, you should have stayed at the Brown Palace. It's a 4 diamond AAA rated place. (And without a pool, tennis court or golf course, that's as high as you can get.) The manager was obviously wrong. He made the same mistake that I make. Explaining why something goes wrong, You didn't want to hear that, you wanted it fixed and an apology. Also sounds like the room itself was OK. (Otherwise you would have found a reason to complain about it too.) The Internet access would have frustrated me too. I never use room service and wouldn't care about the slow elevator. (Unless it broke down while I was in it.)

Service will always be an issue in Denver. All the downtown hotels compete with the Brown Palace. My Wife was meeting a friend in their bar and some guy came up to hit on them. He was escorted to the sidewalk quietly and quickly. Nice to know that women have a place they can meet without be bothered. (Also, the Christmas decorations are great this time of year.)

Les,
Yes, the Curtis on, well, Curtis at 14th. It's entirely possible that you did have a better experience than me, I would be hard pressed to imagine service that was worse.

Scout,
It's a nice looking hotel insofar as the rooms and common areas. They are going for that textbook trendy feel with pastel colors and lot's of gadgets and trinkets (like the VW Beetle alarm clock with a display so bright I had to put a pillow over it at night). The hotel is reasonably new so it feels new.

Nice rooms are little consolation with the wifi doesn't work, the service is crappy, and the management doesn't own up to it and try harder.
