Nice list. A few of my own to add:

Mad World by Gary Jules & Michael Andrews, a remake of Tears for Fears original, in Donny Darko

Mystikal, Shake Ya Ass, in About a Boy

All the AC/DC remakes in School of Rock

Winter, Joshua Rayden, from Scrubs, "My Screwup" episode

Hey Vinnie,
Danger Zone is Top Gun is a good pick. The theme music from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is an original score by Hugo Montenegro, my list was popular music adapted to movies so it doesn't qualify.

Re the Bond movies, I know they make a big deal about what is selected but I have to say that I've never found the music outside of the original scores to be that good.

If you like intersection of movies and music, it is goofy but fun to check out Be Cool with Travolta...where else would you see Steven Tyler, Sergio Mendes and Andre Benjamin of Outkast along with a bunch other genres with a bunch of movie stars?

Not favorites but some of below always evoke their respective movies any time I hear them

Born to be wild, Steppenwolf, Easy Rider
Danger Zone, Kenny Loggins, Top Gun
The Entertainer from the Sting
The whistling tune from The Good,The Bad the Ugly
Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago
Also Sprach Zarathustra 2001 Space Odyssey
Bunch of Bond movies

In the remade Thomas Crown Affair, the heist scene with all the boxer hats was accentutated by Sinner Man to great effect...

That's why I refuse to do lists of favorite anythings. They'd have to change with my moods and...well, best not go there. (It's such a guy thing to make these lists, btw.)

Yeah, I gotta go with Voodoo Child in Black Hawk Down. It's an adaptation of Apocalypse Now but a damn good one. That movie is so powerful that just watching it takes a lot out of me.

Jackie, I almost did go with "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" by The Smiths in Pretty in Pink but now that you mention it, I would have to give a nod to "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds in the Breakfast Club. That song more than anything else defined the tenor of the movie. Very 80's, love it.

The problem with making a list like this is that there simply is no way to capture everything that should be in it!

I can't believe you have no love for the Breakfast Club's many magical musical moments or Jack Black belting out "Let's Get it On" in High Fidelity.

Great choices and I'd have to second Jeff's SRV props as well. I'd add the adaptation of Barber's "Adagio for Strings" at the end of Platoon. For some reason it stayed with me in a creepy sort of way.

Gotta add "Voodoo Chili" by Stevie Ray Vaughn when the helicopters are taking off for the "Battle of Mogodishu" in Black Hawk Down. Similar in tone to the Apocalypse Now scene but hearing that wailing guitar against the chopper blades while seeing those guys faces gives me chills. Subnote-- SRV was killed in a helicopter crash shortly before the actual battle portrayed in the movie.
