I would def go with XP. My lesson from Parallels is that XP actually is a pretty snappy OS if you can get it without all the crapware that runs on a stnd windows PC. I actually have XP configured to run on my Mac/Parellels with only 600mb or so of memory and it's far snappier than the 2gb PC I have at work loaded with crapware. Parallels is a memory hog so unless you have 3gb on your MacBook I would stick with XP and it will likely be the fastest XP you've ever seen.

It must be disappointing to be part of the Vista team at MS and after having spent 5 years building it people still don't find it that much different than the version it replaced. I think I'll go with XP.

I have Vista on my tablet and haven't had any big issues... but I installed so I could have a development environment with it. Otherwise I don't think there's any compelling reason to switch from XP.

Last I heard, certain apps like Photoshop still have Vista issues. I actually bought my MacBook because I needed an XP machine in a hurry and I couldn't find a local PC vendor that could sell me an XP laptop. It's worked like a champ with Parallels -- no complaints.

IIRC there was some chatter awhile ago about what versions of Vista MS would allow to run virtualized. Can't remember if it was FUD but you might check it out before you commit to Vista.

I'm running Fusion/XPSP2 on my new iMac and have been very happy with it... especially the Unity function that Fusion has. It bogs some with 1gb RAM (not unusable, but perceptible), but screams with 2gb.
