My lesson from Parallels is that XP actually is a pretty snappy OS if you can get it without all the crapware that runs on a stnd windows PC. I actually have XP configured to run on my Mac/Parellels with only 600mb or so of memory and it's far snappier than the 2gb PC I have at work loaded with crapware. Parallels is a memory hog so unless you have 3gb on your MacBook I would stick with XP and it will likely be the fastest XP you've ever seen. I would def go with XP. I actually bought my MacBook because I needed an XP machine in a hurry and I couldn't find a local PC vendor that could sell me an XP laptop. It's worked like a champ with Parallels -- no complaints. Can't remember if it was FUD but you might check it out before you commit to Vista.
