Personal Space and Productivity

I get really weirded out about being in close proximity to other people (think Japanese commuter trains). If an elevator is more than 1/2 full, I’ll wait for the next one… and in office settings I like having my own space with a buffer zone. It’s good to hear that working closely together destroys productivity.

Every company seems to have their own ideology about this, Google has a lot of bullpen work spaces while Microsoft gives almost everyone a private office.
