I just got my Clear card in the mail and am also itching to give it a try. Unfortunately, my home airport (Denver) doesn't have a registered traveler program yet, although they claim to be looking at vendors now.

I think it's a great idea, and I agree that $100 a year to cut the security lines is well worth the investment, even if you just look at the stress reduction component. Add to that the fact that I'm a classic early adopter of technology, and it's a win-win so long as they continue to expand the program. Since the various registered traveler programs are supposed to interoperate with one another, I went ahead and registered with Clear, since they are the market leader.

I can't wait to start using my card, and I hope that my first experience is as positive as yours.

you're in the matrix now....just make sure you don't anger homeland security :)

seriously, though, i think people should think long and hard about abuses of privacy that can come from biometric technology. the technology is great, but for me, i'm only going to use it if there are people i can trust on the other end. unfortunately, i'm not so sure that's the case.

Vinnie,
TSA and the FAA are demonstrating themselves to be remarkably powerless when it comes to improving the customer experience of flying. Hell, the FAA can't even get modern radar and other safety systems implemented, a core competency I would think. TSA isn't in the business of providing a good customer experience either, they are in the security business.

If paying Clear $100 a year in order to breeze through popular airports like SFO, San Jose, Orlando, and JFK is what it takes then sign me up. Just dealing with pleasant people in the Clear security station is worth it to me.

Quite honestly, I don't view this any differently than paying to drive on a toll road instead of a free road. If government structured around the concept of providing a free class of service and premium services you pay for then maybe we would all get something we would be pleased with.

Jeff, frankly it is a joke...they have been trying something similar in Orlando for 2 years now - and successfully...by now it should be in most major airports so your $ 99 can pay off in multiple airports not just SFO...

in some airports like Atlanta your airline elite card qualifies you for a short line (without having to pay $ 99)...in others like Portland it should but since SW does not have a elite card (even though i fly enough to qualify for their free companion pass, their highest tier), my Delta elite card would not work since that is in a seperate terminal!

A question we all should be asking for $ 2.50 per passenger per segment (twice that if you transit at an airport even without going through TSA again)why do we not have more lanes and TSA employees? I estimate average per passenger handling time of roughly a minute (compare your ticket to id, review your carry on bags in Xray machine, watch you as you go through scanner, sample checking of checked in bags) that's plenty to pay for labor and all the new equipment they are buying...plus other funding to TSA from other sources, they already have plenty to do better...
