Nacchio

Posted by Jeff as Uncategorized

I lost a lot of money on Qwest, which I wrongly believed at the time was more insulated over the long term from the telecom meltdown than other providers. Part of the reason I believed that is because CEO Nacchio forcefully made that argument, of course in the end he was more concerned about one [...]

"Given the increasingly important role of the Internet in education and commerce, it differs from other media like TV and cable because parents cannot prevent their children from using the Internet altogether," Sen. Stevens said. "The headlines continue to tell us of children who are victimized online. While the issues are difficult, I believe Congress [...]

Woodside Bakery in the Merc

Posted by Jeff as Uncategorized

I love this place, it might as well be called Our Kitchen considering we are there just about as frequently as the one in our home. I still hit Buck’s occasionally but really prefer the Bakery, although I will say that the staff at Buck’s has been there for years (many) and they remember you [...]

Corporate Doublespeak

Posted by Jeff as Marketing

I always felt out of my element in a large company environment, my visit back to SAP this week reinforced that view. I was listening to the various speakers at the social media summit talk and it had me thinking about language. It occured to me that maybe people, consumers to employees alike, would have [...]

JetBlue is a terrific airline to fly on but their JFK operation sucks. Long Lines: The lines for skycap and bag check were huge this morning. The car dropped me off and I was immediately in a long line at the curb. When I asked a maintenance worker having a smoke what the line I [...]

"While I’d love to make a recommendation for one of these sexier frameworks, ultimately I’m going to recommend PHP and WordPressMU in this particular [...]

Blog problems today

Posted by Jeff as Uncategorized

I noticed on several occasions that I have been getting "quota exceeded" error messages when trying to load this page… I don’t think it’s an issue related to traffic but rather something going on at Bluehost.com. Am looking into it, but the message usually resolves itself when the 60 second window passes.

Bad Phish

Posted by Jeff as Uncategorized

When I get a phishing email of this poor quality I get pissed… at least put some effort into it. Make me believe you take some pride in your work. Also note the use of “Bank Of America”… people, is it too much to ask to at least get the company name right?

Why Do We Need One?

Posted by Jeff as Public Policy

Senator Durbin (D-IL) is going to host a series of online discussions about the lack of a national broadband strategy. I would ask the question from the other direction, do we need a national broadband strategy? It strikes me that the U.S. technology industry has been most successful when the Federal government steps aside. Furthermore, [...]
