[...] Jeff Nolan, a former Venture Capitalist for SAP and well respected blogger, has written a positive review of some of the new features we added in our latest release. He does a good job of recognizing where we are positioning ourselves in the market and how we are begging to create new value. His post is worth the read if you the have time and want to learn more about our service! [...]

Jeff,

Thank you for the post! Competitive news clipping and the features we offer in the current free release are just a small subset of what we'll be releasing in the future. We're excited about the niche we are filling now, and look forward to adding a lot more to the service.

Competitious consists of two people right now: myself, and my co-founder Kris Rasmussen. We are located in Palo Alto, CA.

Thanks again!

Jeff,

I don't dispute that Competitious is doing something smart - maybe that didn't come across in my comment.

At the moment, I'd just rather focus on giving companies the tools to do 1) and 2) in your comment and let them build their own applications on top of it.

Niall,
That's all true but you are bookmarking and tagging, any identification of patterns is a function of 1) a broad enough group of people doing it consistently and with a broad enough set of tags, and 2) someone looking at the tag pattern to identify a pattern.

I think that you are missing my point in this post, that's it's a core/context problem and Competitious is doing something very smart, focusing on context. The most interesting part of their service isn't the bookmarking, and truth be told I still like you and Puneet better for that given your tagging, but rather the analytics piece. The comparison matrix and sentiment ratings bring these clippings to life.

Quite honestly I think you should be looking at applications within enterprises rather than simply bookmarking and tagging.

To be fair, the application of tools like Cogenz and Connectbeam go way beyond "news clipping" - sure, they can both be used for that, but Cogenz (and I'm guessing Connectbeam too) is much more valuable in terms of aggregating and surfacing all kinds of internal and external web-based data (including news), then identifying the patterns and connections between bookmarks, tags and users.

As Punnet says, Competitious has found a niche and is focusing on that - which is great for companies that just need that functionality.

Jeff -
Competitious seem to have found a good niche.
We anticipated the need to group items/bookmakrs together around categories, hence, we introduced the concept of topics and a social collaborative framework around them.
Enterprise's unique requirements will continue to drive innovation into Web 2.0 as it starts to manifest inside the enterprise.
To us that is the most interesting aspect of being part of this business.
