Of course humans have an impact, but what there is no consensus on is what it all means. Climate models are not an accurate prediction mechanism but rather a way to understand the system.

I should have been clearer in my first comment to you. I was sloppy in not separating atmospheric warming from climate change.

- humans are one cause of the warming of the atmosphere
- it's not agreed upon as to the extent that global warming results in dramatic climate change
- there are currently theories but none rise to the level of accurate predictors

I think it is a little disingenuous to say that a group of experts purely claim that it is just the natural process acting here; a little browsing will dig up that pretty much the entire community believes that humans have had an impact - this shouldn't have a surprise. While the extent of the impact can be debated, I don't think it's appropriate to simply dismiss it.

As for your original post- while it was satire, it would be just as illogical as the media's spin, to put these two events together as anything past correlation.

Nathan,
There was a degree of satire in my original post but since you have waded into the global climate change debate, I will simply add that there is little consensus about what exactly is causing it. While the media focuses much attention on the Al Gore concerned union of scientists, the fact remains that there is an equally influential community of experts who are arguing that this is a natural process that is replicated over time, as evidenced by many sources of historical record that predate mankind itself.

It would more accurately be called "global climate change" (the term "global warming" is a popular press term, not what scientists were calling it). To say that the cold snap is proof against the phenomenon known as global warming is to buy into the simplest interpretation of a phrase that stuck in the mass media and nothing more.

The related story that was interesting is how Prince Charles is flying to the U.S. to accept an award but is flying commercial instead of by private jet. At first I thought it was a stunt because he and his 20 person entourage bought the entire first and business class sections of the flight (about 65 seats) but it does appear he is trying to offset the increased "carbon footprint" caused by being 1/3 as efficient with some other measures.

As much as it's an easy target to fire on Prince Charles for being an rich guy with too much time on his hands, he does appear to be leading his cause with action and not just words. Of course, the devil is always in the details with these things.

Congress did pass a ban on private jet travel yesterday. Pelosi was forced to create the global warming sub-committee because the Energy committee (which has real power) is chaired by a Democrat from Michigan who is dead set against new efficiency standards for vehicles (for obvious reasons), proving that Republicans don't have a monoploy on short-sightedness...
