Here’s an update on an important case involving competitive trademarks in online advertising specifically limited to keyword buying for sponsored links. That’s just a long way of saying you are not violating trademark law when you buy your competitors trademark terms as an adword as long as you don’t display their trademark in your ad.

Thus, “Due to the separate and distinct nature of the links created on any of the search results pages in question, potential consumers have no opportunity to confuse defendant’s services, goods, advertisements, links or websites for those of plaintiff.”
