Anyone at the UN is a career diplomat and that's why I can't imagine a scenario by which the UN would reform itself. Never gonna happen. The best we can hope for, I am afraid, is a lesser degree of corruption and incompetence. Anyone at the UN is a career diplomat and that’s why I can’t imagine a scenario by which the UN would reform itself. Never gonna happen. The best we can hope for, I am afraid, is a lesser degree of corruption and incompetence.

What stood out is that he is the ultimate career diplomat. He did not answer a single question! Not one. It was an amazing demonstration of obtuseness, slipperyness, deferring, demurring....scarily good as a demo of avoiding taking stands on issues and scarily bad for the UN. I cannot imagine this guy doing anything that required immediate and potentially controversial action. Based on one interview (not a fair sample I admit) I am not hopeful. I saw Ban on This Week.
