Hi Jeff, sorry for the scare like that -- your photos are still available and enjoying Zooomr 2.0.

We have not lost ANY photos ever since our launch over 8 months ago. Every tag, photo, and other data element we have ever stored is still alive in our system.

Due to a small glitch due to our OpenID login system, it accidentally created a new account.

Please feel free to login once more or check-out your photos in their entirety, at the link below:

Best and more anon,

Hi Kevin,
It's been ages, hope you and Julia are well (and new baby if I recall correctly).

Switching costs are low in some respects, mostly from the standpoint of uploading photos to a new site. However, from the metadata standpoint the switching costs are high. If you consider the instrinsic value of Flickr, as an example, it is not the actual photo content but the tag data that has been accumulated. In addition to the metadata, these sites are intrinsically social in nature so the comments and community that you build around your photo library is also of value. To the degree that you are linking to photos in other services (e.g. blogs) would also create stickiness.

I don't keep my master archive of photos in any service, I keep them in iPhoto which means it's probably easier for me to switch services than someone who has archived everything in Shutterfly or Kodak's service.

Bubbleshare is interesting because of the voice annotation. I really like Phanfare even though it costs a few bucks a month.

Sorry to hear about your loss. How great of a loss was it? i.e. how high are the consumer's switching costs in the photo sharing space?

I've seen quite a few new photo sharing sites with various differentiators popping up lately (Zooomer and BubbleShare being two). My wife (you may recall how stuborn she is) wont even give these sites a look as she "uses" Shutterfly. Uses equals years of pics 'archived' and a complete address book for sharing them.

How much room is there in the photo sharing space? Would you crystal ball this one for us??
