LOL, I guess it's possible for any motion to pass overwhelmingly when a small group of insiders control the majority of the voting rights.

I don't know enough about their direct report management but I would not disagree with your comments either.

Didn't the shareholders vote overwhelmingly to keep that structure?

I'm not thinking that it would be shareholder driven. Obviously there are problems at the top but, looking outside in, it really does strike me that the Director level is what really needs to be shaken up.

What I have read of Google management, I think that level of management lacks the leadership skills and management nous to be effective.

Simon,
Given the two class stock structure they have in place, it is going to be exceptionally difficult for the shareholders to have a voice about the leadership of the company.

I don't think the management of Google is good enough to progress the company forward any further. I think they lack the leadership and, while many may be great engineers, the nous to forge the company's disparate parts into a cohesive whole.

I don't really see much change in Google's direction or performance until there is a management shake-up. The underlying strategy of acting as a broker of attention is reasonably sound, however management has failed to weld each product together to properly execute this strategy.

yeah, that's why the Socialtext/Wikicalc deal is more interesting in my biased opinion. Re Writely, Google Pages had a lock feature show up at one point, making me believe they were going to try to go after wikis with that service.

But there's a major technical gaping hole in Google's Spreadsheets and Writely that no one is talking about? Namely, non-synchronized concurrent editing, which can easily lead to a birlliant mess, especially in the spreadsheets scenario!

I put up detailed discussion of this issue and Google's strategy in general.
