Vonage pitches IPO shares to customers

Got a voicemail message from Vonage pitching “directed shares” for their upcoming IPO. Obviously they vetted this from a legal standpoint, but at the same time I can’t help but cringe at the notion of a company proactively doing what Vonage is doing with regard to their IPO shares.
