One of the guys in our research group (here in Palo Alto) asked me if I’d mind using my blog to promote some open positions they have for research scientists. I’ve had good luck with this in the past so of course I’ll post the listings, and also comment that this is a pretty cool group to be a part of.

I. Research Scientist III
Location: Palo Alto, CA

JOB SUMMARY
The Research Scientist is responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects related to SAP software products. Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products. Plans and executes research. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. May participate in development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts. Designs, programs, tests, and documents software developments. Provides technical support and training and relates new developments to customers and SAP employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Researches business requirements; designs, codes, and tests new functionalities, and writes supporting preliminary documentation, using various development tools. Responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects related to SAP software products.
· Maintains integrity/compatibility of software between releases.
· Serves as a liaison between Germany, consultants, and customers relating to analysis, changes and enhances of the SAP product.
· Maintains one’s own professional development; including continuous learning of new SAP products/technologies, and communicating experiences and solutions to fellow colleagues.
*6-8 Years professional experience with at least 1-2 years of SAP specific product knowledge.
*Requires a BS, MS or Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in a related scientific discipline.
*Proven system level development skills.
*Strong background in Web service technologies, J2EE, networking, and data management required.
*Good programming skills in Java or other object-oriented programming language; experience with C/C++ or ABAP would be valued.
*Ideal candidate must have excellent communication and team working skills
II. Research Scientist IV

Its role is to provide unbiased technical advice and prototypes to guide product innovation and evolution and where appropriate, to review outside technology for potential venture and strategic investment. SAP Research also works with a rich set of industrial partners, and leading academic researchers.
Responsibilities
The Research Scientist is responsible for the definition, initiation, execution and implementation of scientific research projects related to SAP’s product offerings. Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and new products. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may participate in the development of patent applications. He or she may coordinate research activities with internal and external partners. Researchers will also be expected to help guide and manage academic interns.
May function as team leader. Performs complex product design activities, which may require extensive research and analysis. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. May serve as a senior product architect. Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues. Work leadership may be provided by assigning work and resolving problems.
Requirements
*Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or other related fields. B.S. and M.S. with appropriate industry experience will also be considered.
*At least 8 years of professional experience in IT development or scientific research; SAP specific product knowledge would be beneficial.
*Proven system level development skills.
*Strong background in Web service technologies, J2EE, networking, and data management required.
*Good programming skills in Java or other object-oriented programming language; experience with C/C++ or ABAP would be valued.
*Ideal candidate must have excellent communication and team working skills and would be a strong visionary thinker.
III. Research Scientist V

The Research Scientist is a recognized expert. May function as team leader. Performs the most complex and innovative of product design activities, which may require extensive research and analysis. Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variance factors. Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues. Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. Work leadership may be provided by assigning work and resolving problems. Assumes project management responsibilities in manager’s absence.
Requirements
*Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or other related fields. B.S. and M.S. with appropriate industry experience will also be considered.
