Apparently Google doesn't believe people will change their defaults that frequently, otherwise they wouldn't have paid Dell $1b to put Google on the desktop of every Dell PC.

2: good point.

1. I wonder if many folks will change their defaults. So Google has a point to worry about.
2. Search is becoming a commodity, there is not much difference in a normal search done over Yahoo, Google or any other (unless you are looking for advanced search topics). It is interesting to perceive Google as an "Ad Delivery Mechanism" rather than a search engine and you get an entirely different view of things.

I thought about deleting the above comment because I think it's pretty unlikely that the author Jeff Nolan is browsing my blog, so it's likely some smart ass. But I am going to leave it because anyone that knows me will be quick to recognize that I would never post a comment as inane as "it all has to do with simplicity".

It all has to do with simplicity. Simplicity rules. Whatever is simplest and fastest, eventually will catch on. Just like google, and just like firefox.
