that's why I think they haven't had a lot of uptake on Amazon, because you can use their "user review" feature to add you .02 cents without going in to a wiki. I have always wondered what Amazon was hoping to achieve with wikis, they should be looking at buying guides and getting vendors or publications to step up.

I’m not really surprised. As much as I am a wiki-fan I’ve always believed and said that wikis are not some kind of magic wand to be applied everywhere. They are ideal for any collaborative effort, where there is a common goal among contributors. Movie-, book-, product reviews are typical examples of a situation where the value is in presenting the diverse individual contributions, preserving their original content and sequence vs. trying to arrive to a synthesis of all thoughts; this is still best achived by using “traditional” forum/discussion platforms. Wikis applied in the wrong situation will lead wiki-wars (which .. hm.. can be quite entertaining), and in the long run I believe will not help the widespread adoption of this wonderful collaboration platform.
