[...] Thingamy is a perfect example for the first approach. It provides an online application development environment that requires absolutely no coding and allows non-technical people to develop fairly sophisticated applications through simple wizards. What makes Thingamy unlike anything else I’ve seen so far is that it treats both objects and flows as first class citizen. Usually, application development tools will either be data centric and relegate flows to the background — Salesforce.com is a good example for that, or take a process centric approach and provide no easy way to build custom objects. Thingamy is the first tool that I have seen that does both equally well. It’s still under heavy development, but what Sigurd Rinde showed me was enough to convince me that he is up to something quite interesting. Many thanks to Jeff Nolan for his introduction to Thingamy. [...]

Thanks Sig. The reason I pointed to your project is that I believe innovation happens when technologies are applied, and while I don't know what Thingamy does at a low level I am intrigued by the simple process on top of flexible data model. I'd love a demo.

Hey Jeff,

in a sense I do agree with you on "not being in the innovation business", applies even to me...

What we're focussing on is to make a tool that allows the user/market do the innovation, and when we dream, that it will even give them that extra push to innovate.

And with a bit of user-innovation comes "being different" and with that perhaps "beating the s**t out of you competition" etc. and yada, yada... :)

In any case, it's more fun!

Saw you comment over at Thomas' blog - if you're up for it I'll give a little demo, then it's easier to get an idea... sig.at.thingamy.com is the place or Skype at sigurd.rinde...

Jeff, I wish you and other large s/w and services vendors were into either innovation or commercialization. Right now 40 to 50% of your revenues go in to sales, marketing and admin. The numbers do not lie - and show you are more into cereal manufacturig rather than drug research or manufacturing. But trying to sell cereal at drug pricing.

Hang on Jeff - am I hearing you right?
1. important to get into users' hands
2. ...architected to leverage the innovation of others...

So how does the salesforce get compensated when the innovation may be available online only and by subscription? Will they demo that to users? I doubt it.
