“We’re not a calendaring company either”. It’s pretty clear after 4 companies that this entire space needs to be rebranded.
What I like about this presentation is that they are taking a moment to explain how events are much more prevalent than we may be thinking, pointing out that Home Depot does workshops in their stores that qualify as events they want to promote. Very good point.
Where does the data come from? Lot’s of places and none of it is very easy to get is the answer, so that leads one to believe that being successful in this business is dependent on having a significant service side of the business that collects and cleanses content. Wonder what the economics are on this?
“User generated content is not going to save you.” Takes a jab at Craigslist stating that it’s not growing… on a related note, I find Craigslist very frustrating. I just don’t see how Craigslist gets to the next level with what they have, unless it’s a simple as doing what they are doing in more metro areas, in which case they would be leaving a bunch of space at the table open for new companies like Zvents.
BTW, the judging panel loved the data service but disliked the UI.
Peter, care to comment?
