Sling closes financing round

This is great news for Sling, and for me as I am a Sling customer and absolutely love it. Consumers have been fortunate over the last 5-6 years to be the beneficiaries of some fantastic new devices and the Slingbox takes it to a whole new level. People like to talk about Tivo as a seminal device, and while I won’t disagree that it does change the way you watch television I do take issue with the notion that it is anything more than simply a better way to record and view content. Sling, on the other hand, not only changes the way you watch television but gives you the ability to take television with you.

When I am in Germany I am stuck with 2 english language channels, CNN International and CNBC (which isn’t even on all the time) and both are lame… but now I can fire up my laptop and watch any channel I want because I’m actually watching my television and not what the Marriott in Heidelberg is giving me. It’s liberating in a weird kind of way… almost like I’m “sticking it to the man”.
